Healthy Hearing Tips for Kids

Healthy Hearing Tips for Kids

Take care of your kids’ hearing health with these tips!

Taking care of your health is essential; it is one of the most fundamental ways to practice self-discipline. Besides, when you are healthy, you feel great and can do more in life. Taking care of your hearing health is one part of self-healthcare that many might overlook. If you are a parent or grandparent, it is important to teach kids how to take care of their hearing health too. These healthy hearing tips for kids take care of all the bases.

Keep the Volume Down

Today’s tech devices, such as smartphones, have indicators on them to show when loud is too loud. Kids’ ears are more sensitive than adults’, so it is best to keep the TV, iPad, and phone volumes at a decent, monitored level.

Wear Ear Protection

Concerts, fireworks shows, and other events with loud noise levels can pose the risk of hearing loss to kids. Once again, kids’ ears are sensitive, and some more than others. It is better to be safe than sorry and come equipped with hearing protection.

Take Breaks from Electronics

Electronics may or may not play too large a role in some children’s lives. Monitor how long your kids can spend time with electronics each day; after all, kids should play! Limiting screen time also can give them a break from the continuous noise that might come with it.

Play Safe

Everyone knows to train their kids to avoid hitting other kids in the head, even if it’s with a water balloon. Aside from preventing a traumatic brain injury, it also protects hearing. Traumatic brain injuries can cause some level of hearing loss, as the brain plays a large role in how we hear.

Prevent & Treat Ear Infections

Ear infections tend to happen at a young age because children’s Eustachian tubes are smaller and more likely to trap bacteria. Bacteria can enter via swimming or daily life. Keep ears clean and treat ear infections immediately.

Keep Ears Warm

The cold can hurt anyone’s ears. It can cause excessive bone growth in the ear (known as surfer’s ear) and interfere with hearing. Choose winter hats that insulate the ears for the best protection.
