How to Protect Your Hearing This Fall

How to Protect Your Hearing This Fall

Keep your ears in sharp condition this fall with these tips!

The fall season brings much festivity, but it also brings about some changes in how we take care of our health. Activities and the weather shift in this time, and this means gearing up in different ways and taking different precautions. Not the least of our concerns should be our hearing health. For healthy hearing, here’s how to protect your hearing this fall!

Caution around Leafblowers

Leafblowers are perhaps the most notorious threats to anyone’s hearing health in the fall. Protect your hearing this fall by either leaving the leaf-blowing to the professionals or wearing hearing protection when you clear the foliage. Leafblowers can exceed 80-85 decibels, which makes constant exposure to them a hearing hazard not to be overlooked.

Hearing Protection in Noisy Settings

Aside from leafblowers, there may be other situations you’ll find yourself in this fall for seasonal activities. If you are attending a sports game or a concert or if you are going hunting, it’s safer to wear hearing protection to avoid permanent hearing damage. Each time your hearing is damaged, it increases your chances of losing balance and losing the ability to communicate.

Keeping Your Ears Warm

Colder temperatures can lead to physical damage to the ear. If you have sensitive ears, you might want to invest in earmuffs, a hooded jacket, or simply a scarf to cover your ears. Cold temperatures can increase the risk of an ear infection and cause pain, dizziness, and sometimes hearing loss.

Taking Breaks from Noise

If you find yourself in noisy settings such as a loud and crowded event, feel free to take a break if you need to. Whether it’s in a massive stadium or your living room, you should always be able to exit to a quieter environment.
