How to Extend the Life of Your Hearing Aid

How to Extend the Life of Your Hearing Aid

To extend the life of your hearing aid this year, consider these four easy tips.

How old is your hearing aid? While many hearing aids are built to last, it is also essential to make sure that they last as long as possible. With a hearing aid that continues to work the way that it should, you will be able to hear easily with minimal issues throughout the year. To extend the life of your hearing aid this year, consider these four easy tips.

Keep Your Hands Clean When Changing the Battery

Similar to other electronic devices, you will need to replace your hearing aid battery over time. However, it is important to keep your hands clean and free of dirt and oils so that it does not harm your hearing aid battery. By keeping your hands clean, you can be sure that these substances do not harm the battery. Along with washing your hands, it is important to make sure that your hands are completely dry before handling the battery of your hearing aid. Any residual water on your hands may cause damage to the battery as well.

Keep Your Hearing Aid Clean

Once you have new batteries, it is important to keep them clean. Over time, substances such as ear wax, dust, and dirt can clog the speakers on your hearing aid and interfere with the sound quality. Turning up the volume on your hearing aid because of a blockage in the speaker could also lead to wearing down your hearing aid battery over time.

Keep Your Batteries Stored Properly

It is always important to store your hearing aid batteries properly once you have purchased them. Like any other batteries, it is crucial to keep them stored in a safe and dry place throughout the year. With this, it is also important to keep the tabs on extra batteries that are not being used and to keep your extra batteries stored at room temperature.

Keep Your Hearing Aid Off When it is Not in Use

Like any other electronic device, your hearing aid should be charged when it is not in use. It is also a good idea to put your hearing aids in their container when you are not using it. If you choose to store your hearing aid in its container, be sure to open the door to the battery compartment to dry up any excess moisture that may accumulate in it throughout the day. If will not be using your hearing aid for a significant amount of time, remove your batteries and reinsert them when you are using your hearing aids again.
