Practical Ways to Exercise Your Ears

Practical Ways to Exercise Your Ears

These three simple exercises help keep hearing sharp!

Ears are more important than one might think; using them every day, it’s easy to take them for granted. However, it is through our ears that we can enjoy countless sounds such as birds singing and loved one’s voices, and it is also through them that we connect powerfully with other people. Keeping them healthy helps keep you happy. There are at least three practical ways to exercise your ears for hearing health, as described below.

Identifying Sounds

One exercise to do is quite simple and only requires sitting still in a room with lots of ambient noise and closing your eyes. Closing your eyes can help you focus more on what you’re hearing, and it is necessary to perform this exercise.

First, find a room with a lot of ongoing noise, such as a food court, a mall, or even a park. If you go to an event such as a concert, a party, or a lecture, you also have an opportunity to practice. Next, close your eyes for a few moments and focus your ears on honing in on specific sounds in the room. The objective is to hear it clearly, identify it, and locate it. For example, you might hear a child talking and observe it coming from the left side of the room.

Filtering Sounds

Another way to exercise your ears is to focus on listening to a primary sound while ambient sound is present. One of the most common types of hearing issues is the inability to hear people talk in a crowded room. A good way to practice and give your brain a good workout is to ask someone to have a conversation with you while music, the television, or the radio is playing in the background. Focusing on the conversation will help tone your hearing ability and keep it sharp.

Playing Puzzle Games

Lastly, you can also sharpen your hearing by playing brain games! Yes, puzzle games are an excellent way to exercise your ears. All you need to do is have fun. With plenty of choices out there both physical and online, there is something for everyone!
