Wearing Hearing Aids on an Airplane

Got hearing aids and traveling? Take care with these tips!

Whether you are traveling for work or leisure, airplane travel is often a big deal. Even if you are a seasoned traveler, flying has its challenges, especially if you need to get a good night’s sleep during the flight. What about wearing hearing aids on an airplane? What about wearing hearing aids through airport security? Here are the ins and outs of what you need to know: it is easy to fly with hearing aids!

Tips for Wearing Hearing Aids on an Airplane

Wear Your Hearing Aids During the Flight

It is best to wear your hearing aids as you normally would the day of your flight. You might be tempted to take them off for the flight, but it is best to keep them on as you normally would. You don’t want to forget to bring your hearing aids altogether, and you want to be able to hear the flight attendants and pilots for directions and information. Air travel may make hearing slightly more difficult, but wearing your hearing aids will only help.

Keep All Hearing Aid Accessories with You

Keep all vital information and items on your person when you travel by plane. You don’t want to leave valuables at risk of getting lost, should anything happen to your checked-in luggage. Plus, you never know if you might need an extra hearing aid battery.

If your trip is long enough, you will want to clean your hearing aids mid-flight at a normal interval as you would at home. It is worth refreshing yourself and your hearing aids midway!

Don’t Worry about Security

The security alarm will not go off when you walk through the detector at the airport. If it does signal, you can let security know before or after you walk through. If the security personnel put your hearing aids under an X-ray, the X-ray will not harm your hearing aids.

Communication Is Key

Ultimately, everyone must do their part to communicate clearly on an airplane. Wearing your hearing aids will help you hear in an environment with loud background noise. It will be essential to learn information, especially in an unlikely emergency.
