Exercises to Sharpen Your Hearing

Promote healthy hearing with these simple ways to exercise them!

If you have struggled with taking care of your hearing, or you suspect that you are developing even mild hearing loss, or you are trying to improve diagnosed hearing loss, there may be a few exercises to sharpen your hearing. Let’s take a look!

Taking a Walk or Going for a Run

You can improve your hearing, or at least maintain it, by just exercising as you normally might. Whether you like taking walks, jogging, working out at the gym, or biking, exercising your whole body promotes healthy hearing. If your body is healthy, your ears will be healthier.

Aerobic Exercises

Aerobic exercises especially help promote blood circulation in the ears. This circulation is essential to functional hearing. Without it, parts of your ear can die. Aerobic exercises promote oxygen getting to your heart, lungs, and muscles and involve moving your whole body. Another term for it is cardio.

Puzzles

Puzzles, like brain teasers, help keep your brain sharp. Your brain is a muscle and needs exercising, and puzzles are a fun way to keep it quick. Your brain interprets speech and sound signals sent to it from your ears, and if it cannot process them, the brain grows weaker. Puzzles help keep your brain and hearing better off!

Keeping Quiet

Avoid using earbuds too much, as they can cause hearing loss by prolonging sound exposure. Just sitting in a quiet place and listening to the sounds around you, like birds singing, cars passing, children playing, etc., can attune your ears to quieter sounds.

Ear Massages

You can also directly treat your outer ears to promote blood circulation. One way is to massage your outer ear gently for up to a minute. Repeat the process with the other ear. A massage will help promote blood flow and reduce muscle tension.

Ear Tugging

Gently tugging on your earlobes for up to a minute can also promote blood circulation and rejuvenate your ears and thus your hearing. Do it gently, though, or you’ll end up pinching yourself!

Ear Acupressure

Applying gentle pressure on the top, middle, bottom, and lobes of your ears will help reduce muscle tension around your ears.
